A new smartphone app has been launched in Merseyside today to assist victims and witnesses to report hate crime and access support services. Merseyside’s Police Commissioner Jane Kennedy has united with leading hate crime charity Stop Hate UK to launch the new app in Merseyside, with the aim of encouraging more victims of hate crime to come forward and boost confidence in reporting. Southport father of one Jamie Ashall avoided an immediate custodial sentence this week after breaking a man’s jaw in three places on a night out in the town in November 2019. The vicious and unprovoked attack left victim Matthew O’Callaghan with his jaw wired shut, having to drink through a straw for several months. Ashall has ten previous convictions for eleven offences, none of which were for violent crimes. Following reports of dogs ingesting pink pellets on Hesketh Park, Merseyside Police have advised that two people have come forward to let them know that they have been feeding the birds in the park with bird seed. This bird seed matches the description of the pink pellets described by the dog owners, is not believed to be harmful to dogs, and has been left on the park in good faith. Temporary traffic lights at the roundabout junction of Denmark Road, Manor Road and Cambridge Road have been causing disruption and delays in Churchtown today.
