Parents asked to tell Council why they are not taking up vaccinations for children under 5

By On The Spot News2nd April 2026

Parents and carers of children aged 0-5 in Sefton are being asked to share their views on vaccinations with the NHS.

    Short online survey

In a short online survey, parents and carers are being asked a number of questions. The answers will help the NHS understand what might be preventing some people from taking up the free vaccinations on offer.

People taking the survey are asked questions on what they know about childhood vaccinations and where they usually get health information for their child.

    What could make it easier

There are also questions about people’s views and feelings on vaccinations and what could make it easier for them to get their child vaccinated. And there is a chance or people to feed back anything they want to say about childhood vaccinations or their own experiences.

All the information collected, which will be anonymous, will be used by the 0-5s NHS’s Improving Immunisations Uptake Team to develop community-led and targeted measures to improve the uptake of vaccinations.

Best way to ensure children have immunity they need

Sefton’s Director of Public Health, Dr Rory McGill said: “Vaccinations are the best way to ensure children they have the immunity they need to protect them against potentially serious and sometimes life-threatening illnesses such as measles and meningitis.

“Whatever their opinions on vaccinations, I would urge parents and carers in Sefton to take part in this survey so that the NHS can build a better and more informed picture of their views.”
