At just after 3pm on Wednesday 17 February, a train guard asked a man to put his dog on a lead before boarding the train. Merseyside’s Police Commissioner Jane Kennedy is supporting a national survey designed to understand public perception of dog theft, enforcement, and the prosecution of offenders. Demand for dogs as pets has increased during the coronavirus pandemic. The cost of some puppies, on Pets4Homes, is currently as high as £3,000, making them a valuable commodity to criminals. Vulnerable patients in West Lancashire who have tested positive for COVID-19 could avoid the need to visit hospital thanks to the ‘Pulse Oximetry at Home’ service being rolled out in the region. The at-home monitoring service was developed by NHS Trusts alongside GP Practices and local providers. Blind and partially sighted people with no internet access are being given the opportunity to try new assistive technology through Galloway’s. The sight loss charity is working with new digital partner Aspire Assistive CIC Ltd to deliver a pilot project called Tech Ability. Galloway’s will loan out Wi-Fi-enabled tablets and provide one-to-one online remote support to 15 blind and partially sighted people who are not currently using or are infrequent users of technology or equipment. A death, with salmonella recorded as a contributory cause, has led to an investigation by The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Public Health England (PHE) who are now probing four further deaths over the last year through fears they may be connected to contaminated meat imported from Poland. Merseyside Police are investigating following a burglary at Pets at Home in Southport last night, Monday 22nd February. Police were contacted at 8.50pm following reports that four males had forced entry to the store on Marine Parade and carried out an untidy search. They also entered the Vets4Pets business within the store and stole a quantity of cash and veterinary drugs before making their escape in a black Ford Fiesta.
