Churchtown Co-op spread joy with golden tickets

25th February 2021

It’s not just the sunshine that’s brightened people’s days around Churchtown and Marshside today, the Co-op Store in Churchtown have hidden a number of “golden tickets” around the area for people to find, bring to store and exchange for a gift.

Co-op says this is “just a small act of kindness from the Co-op to spread kindness in the community.”

These golden tickets can be brought to the store and exchanged for a free Fairtrade gift.

What’s Fairtrade? Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fairtrade tackles the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the most vulnerable. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Fairtrade is a global movement with a strong and active presence in the UK, represented by the Fairtrade Foundation.

The golden tickets have been distributed as part of Co-op’s support of Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from 22nd of February to the 7th of March.

For two weeks each year at the end of February and start of March, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to share the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks. mine our gold and who grow the cotton in our clothes, people who are often exploited and underpaid.
