A local couple looking to rent their dream home in the town almost became the victims of scammers pretending to be vacant property owners. The scammers used property listed for rental online to contact the couple through Facebook in order to obtain personal details and identification documents from the pair and almost succeeded in extorting £2000. With the implementation of mandatory face coverings in UK shops on Friday, it has come to light that a number of dangerous products being aimed at babies and young children are currently on sale in the UK. These products are not safe and pose a large suffocation risk for young children. Sharon Pantellerisco, a single mum from Southport has been successful in challenging the Department for Work and Pensions over universal credit rules in the High Court this week. Receiving payment from her employer four-weekly rather than monthly reduced her universal credit by up to £463 per month. Ms Pantellerisco is the sole carer of her three dependent children who all live with her and is employed for 16 hours a week on the national living wage but, because she was paid on a four-week basis, this resulted in her falling short of the income threshold to avoid a benefit cap.…

Allan Corlett, 75, from Formby was this week handed a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months along with a restraining order after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The pensioner shot an air rifle twice near the 13-year-old son of his neighbour after the boy climbed over his garden fence to retrieve a football. Shaun Esterhuizen, 40 of the Promenade Southport, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this month and has now been sentenced to 27 months in prison. The father of two was found asleep at the wheel of his VW with the engine running, in Elm Road Southport in November 2019.
