In March 1926, Sir Henry Segrave drove his Sunbeam Tiger on Southport Beach, reaching a top speed of 152.33mph and earning himnself a place in history. Sir Henry, a former fighter pilot, was the first person to travel at more than 200mph (320km/h) in a land vehicle. Kenneth Grisedale, 58, of Hartwood Road, Southport was charged with causing death by dangerous driving after 46 year old Andrew Birch was killed in a collision on the A570 Southport Road on January 6, 2015. CALL OUT Southport Lifeboat was paged to a report of 3 people north of Southport pier in possible difficulty, Saturday 13 February. With the tide on the way in the quads were dispatched to locate the people whilst the lifeboat was on its way to the beach. The quad bikes along with Southport Coastguard searched the coastline but all members of the public were safe. Sefton Council is changing its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme (LCTRS) from April 1, 2016. By law each financial year Sefton Council must consider whether to revise or replace its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme. Following a period of consultation, Sefton has reviewed the 2015/16 scheme and at last week’s Full Council meeting (January 29) a revision to the scheme was approved. The needs of victims of crime are set to be put at the centre of the justice system in Sefton with the launch of Community Justice Panels. The service, launched by Sefton Council in partnership with Merseyside Police, is a neighbourhood approach to resolving anti-social behaviour, community conflict and small level criminal offenses with the help of local residents.
