Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme April 2016

6th February 2016

Sefton Council is changing its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme (LCTRS) from April 1, 2016.

By law each financial year Sefton Council must consider whether to revise or replace its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

Following a period of consultation, Sefton has reviewed the 2015/16 scheme and at last week’s Full Council meeting (January 29) a revision to the scheme was approved.

Sefton Council will continue with the 2015/16 Council Tax Reduction Scheme but is to provide more support to non-pensioner households by reducing the minimum payment being charged from 20% to 16% of the Council Tax bill.

This change will not affect customers who have reached their state pension age who continue to have their Council Tax Reduction calculated on rules set by the Government.

At the moment there are more than 14,000 working age residents in the borough who receive Council Tax support.
