The Sunbeam car that Sir Henry Seagrave broke the land speed record in has arrived at The Atkinson ahead of the Festival of Speed.

In March 1926, Sir Henry Segrave drove his Sunbeam Tiger on Southport Beach, reaching a top speed of 152.33mph and earning himnself a place in history.

Sir Henry, a former fighter pilot, was the first person to travel at more than 200mph (320km/h) in a land vehicle.

From this Saturday (March 12) until Sunday, March 20, Southport will host a number of special events to celebrate this incredible achievement, many of them at The Atkinson on Lord Street.

A recreation of the record breaking drive is scheduled for Ainsdale beach as part of the land speed record 90th anniversary festival.
