Cyber attackers broke into the email of Merseyrail Managing Director Andy Heath last month as part of a ransomware attack on the company. Several newspapers, security blogs and Merseyrail staff received an email from Heath’s email address on 18 April with the subject: “”Lockbit Ransomware Attack and Data Theft.” In this email, the sender pretended to be Andy Heath informing staff that they suffered a ransomware attack where the hackers stole employee and customer data. The director of a Southport youth football team has pleaded guilty to the theft of tens of thousands of pounds from the team. Michelle Marshall and her husband Simon Marshall were accused of the theft of £99,460.38 raised to build new facilities on Russell Road Recreation Ground for Phoenix FC. Michelle Marshall pleaded guilty to theft, but disputes aspects of the prosecution case. Simon Marshall continues to deny the charges, and will stand trial in January 2022. Southport FC have been fined £4,000 by the National League for breaches of the competition’s coronavirus regulations and failure to fulfil fixtures. Two seperate fines of £2,000 were levied against the Sandgrounders by an independent panel. Southport were also handed a two points deduction, suspended pending any further regulation breaches. A total of 18 clubs were charged by the National League with 17 being found guilty. Dover Athletic were handed the most severe punishment, receiving a £40,000 fine. The four men arrested with Anderson have also been released on police bail. Mass coronavirus testing in Liverpool has found 700 positive cases in people who otherwise displayed no symptoms. The city was the first in the UK to offer mass testing to anyone who lived or worked in the region. 2,000 military personnel have been assisting the program over the last ten days. The restrictions will come into effect from 1 minute past midnight on Thursday and last until December 2nd.
