Woodlands Animal Sanctuary 10k Woodlands Walk

    By Community Contributor24th May 2021

Woodlands Animal Sanctuary have joined forces with Give as you Live Donate to offer you the challenge of walking 10k in May.  Making the most of the better weather and being able to meet up with more people outside – you can even now share a celebratory hug on completion of your walk!  The animal rescue is asking you to get sponsored to walk 10k with the aim of each person who joins in raising £140+ and ideally reaching the magic target of £5000 which will supply the sanctuary with vital running costs for a full week.

Kitten season is in full swing with the team currently caring for 37 kittens, already.  Hedgehog admittance numbers are increasing with the team bracing themselves for a repeat of last year when intake numbers reached a record of 22 hogs admitted in just one week.

All of your donations will go towards the work this charity does day in and day out.  From food and water bills, to staff costs, medications, bedding and veterinary fees, these running costs are relentless, but so vital to continue providing sanctuary and hope for ill, unwanted and abandoned animals.

Hedgehogs are still classed as an endanged species within the UK, which means any work supporting them to increase their numbers is incredibly important and as Woodlands see, there are many, many hogs struggling just in their local area.

So, why not grab your walking boots, or your flip flops if you fancy more of a challenge, and get out and enjoy some time outside, after what can only be described as an incredibly bizarre year, whilst raising money for a really worthwhile local cause.

If you don’t feel up to the walk yourself you could always sponsor Merlin, the cheeky Miniature Shetland who lives at Woodlands who, with some of his carers, will be walking 1k a day in an effort to raise money for the less fortunate animals who find their way to Woodlands.  Visit:  https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/merlins-miles
