Former Dukes Ward Councillor David Barton has paid tribute to the late Tom Glover.

It is with deep grief and sorrow to learn of Cllr Glover’s passing. Having known Tom since a very young age I am fraught that he shall no longer be with us. As one of my own chief mentors, Tom was an outstanding man of grace and fervour, something which I have been able to learn from myself in my capacity as a former Dukes Ward Councillor. Cllr Glover was a steadfast local community champion who always sought to broker peace and bring communities together, irrespective of political allegiances and truly mastered the art of local diplomacy when acting for both his constituents and pursuing the best possible outcome from the Local Authority.

I first met Tom back at High School when I  encountered a difficult time resulting from my background. It was at this juncture in my life when I received the guidance and necessary support to address and resolve such difficult matters a skill which has since benefitted me greatly in everyday life. Having since observed this benevolent and marvellous gentleman protecting the local environment and standing up for my local community, I am deeply honoured and truly privileged to have been bestowed such sage counsel from this great pillar and titan of Southport society.

It is my hope that all his great legacy of numerous achievements across Cambridge Ward and beyond shall help residents keep the spirit of Tom Glover alive for many years, in turn enabling people to remember and appreciate just some of the incredible things that he was able to deliver for our local community.

I would like to therefore thank Cllr Glover, as he shall always be known to many local residents, for all his many years of public service and his wonderful supportive family that has allowed him to achieve a great record of action on behalf of the people of Southport  & Marshside. As a lifelong Conservative to the very end I would humbly like to wish his family all the best in the future ahead and convey that our thoughts are with them at this time.”
