Traffic misery for road users in Meols Cop

    By Community Contributor14th August 2020

Scheduled works on key routes throughout the town are causing traffic misery for road users.

Meols Cop Road is closed between Haig Avenue and Kew roundabout until 17th August whilst sewer repair work is undertaken.

Diversions in place are leaving Scarisbrick New Road built up in both directions.  Haig Avenue is bearing the brunt of the diversions leaving it at times impassable due to queuing traffic and an increased number of heavy goods vehicles forced to navigate the residential street.

The Coastal Road between Weld Road and Woodvale is closed until the 28th August with widening of the existing cycle lanes, drainage works and the laying of a new duct network being carried out.

Alternative routes in and out of the town via Liverpool Road and Hillside Road are almost at standstill during rush the rush hours, with the weight of traffic forced onto those roads at other times notably increased by the number of visitors to the town during the nice weather.

United Utilities are also carrying out emergency work at a number of sites through the town where traffic control measures are in place, including Hart Street, Liverpool Road at the junction of Halsall Road, St Lukes Road, Albert Road between North Street and Alexander Road junctions and Cambridge Road.

SP Energy Networks are also undertaking work on Fylde Road, with temporary traffic lights in place.
