Prop James “Jimmy” Thomas was part of the club’s title-winning side of the 2006/07 season, and took part in their successful world record attempt to play in the world’s longest ever game of rugby in 2015.

Southport RFC said: “Jimmy would like to thank Ian Whitaker, Mike Dale and Gareth Lang and all for allowing this match to take place.

“All at Southport RFC would like to extend our best wishes to Jimmy with his recovery.”
