Local businesses collaborate to celebrate the launch of Express Performing Arts Academy

The summer saw the launch of the all new Express Performing Arts Academy, at Greenbank High School.

Young performers from the age of five to fourteen stormed to the stage with their abridged performance of ‘Matilda the Musical’.

Students took part in a three day summer school exploring the disciplines of Drama, Dance and Song.

The performance deemed a professional look with choreography by dance teacher Danielle Clark.

Students also wore performance t-shirts and showcased professional hair and make-up, all sponsored by Unique Hair &Beauty, Southport.

A raffle was also held at the event, with prizes donated by – Go Royale, the Tiny Tooth Fairy, Mimi & Lotti’s Coffee House, The Image Rooms, Mr Casey’s Pizza take-away, Bury Road Garage, Barron’s financial solutions and an amazing Matilda themed cake provided by Carolyn Delaney to name but a few, raising £150 for Queenscourt Hospice Charity.

Academy founder Lisa Walshe, expressed her pride in the Academy students: “Children never fail to amaze me, their dedication and enthusiasm to create such an amazing performance in just three days was unbelievable.

“I am immensely proud of every one of them, from the experienced performers to first timers, they all did themselves, and their parents proud.

With over twenty years experience of teaching Drama, I realise the importance of the Arts and how it can bring out the best in young people, especially in today’s society with the academic pressures children face.

The Arts provides the release that they need to express themselves the way that they should as children, and Express Performing Arts Academy will strive to provide this well needed service.”

A parent who attended the event said: “My girls had an amazing time at the academy, Lisa and the rest of the team were so kind an made the girls feel so welcome, especially on their first day when the nerves set in. The show was fantastic, I can’t believe they put it together in just three days. The girls came home every evening talking about what they had done.”

“Also, a lovely little touch on performance day was that they all got their hair and makeup done for the performance.

“We are patiently waiting for the next workshop to pop up.”

“Express Performing Arts academy opened in the summer with a three day ‘Matilda’ themed workshop, future plans involve further holiday clubs; one-to-one ‘Express yourself’ sessions for students struggling with exam pressure and regular weekly classes in all Arts disciplines.”

The next event will be held during October Half term, at Waterside Lodge, Southport, when the academy will collaborate once again with Unique Hair and Beauty in a Halloween themed workshop. They will also be joined by Fancy Faces, Southport who will be providing face painting for the event.
