A reckless dog owner has put his life and the life of his pet in danger after jumping a live level crossing in Southport.
The male was caught on camera by stunned onlookers after he calmly walked his pet spaniel across the active level crossing barrier outside Birkdale Station this afternoon.
Warning lights were on, sirens were sounding and barriers closing before the male walked across the track according to those on the scene
The man narrowly avoided his dog being hit by one of the closing barriers before he made a quick exit on the other side of the crossing.
Staff at Birkdale station were made aware of the incident and CCTV is available.
