‘Focus on the joy’ plea from independent campaigners backing Gardens regeneration

A second petition has been launched over the proposed redevelopment of Southport’s town hall gardens.

The petition, which urges people to ‘focus on the joy’ the area can bring to the town, has been created on the back of intense public scrutiny into the refurbishment.

Heritage campaigners have said their petition, which has received backing from residents in the US and Australia, should force the Council to consult again on the scheme, despite there already being two publicised consultations which have taken place.

They claim heritage assets will be ‘raised to the ground’ which has been strenuously denied by the Council.

The plans have received ‘overwhelming support’ said a Council spokesperson.

Now residents who also back the scheme are trying to encourage others to focus on what positives the scheme can provide for future generations and families.

Hopefull petition author Ann Marie Willetts said “You may have concerns, and I encourage you to review Sefton Council’s vision for the gardens and their answers to common questions, which can be found

“This transparency should inspire faith in the families vision to preserve what we cherish while allowing for enhancement that benefits everyone.

“Let’s celebrate our collective history by embracing a brighter future for Town Hall Gardens.

“By supporting this revamp, you are not erasing memories but granting a new era of shared experiences.

“Sign this petition to ensure the Town Hall Gardens revamp proceeds, benefitting all who cherish Southport’s community spirit and history.

“Let us stand together for progress and preservation.”
