Police scour CCTV after reports of man attacked in town centre

Part of Southport Town Centre remains closed off this lunchtime as a police investigation continues.

Police have asked local businesses and taxi drivers to check CCTV and dashcam footage as part of an investigation into the alleged assault of a man on Chapel Street.

As first reported by the Southport Visiter a man was allegedly attacked near to the Santander Bank and Corporation Street just before 11pm on Tuesday evening.

Unconfirmed reports state the victim was a security guard in the process of transferring cash to and from the bank.

Forensics officers were still on scene at 11am.

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and are keen to speak to anyone who may have saw the incident.

“If you live in the area or were driving past at the time, please check you CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that might help with our inquiries. The smallest detail could be the key to finding the person responsible.”
