Sefton Council say they can’t talk about the decision to close the Aviary in Southport due to an impending legal challenge.
The stunning update will be welcome news to those passionately fighting against the closure, with the council’s reluctance to talk about the challenge indicating they are taking the matter extremely seriously.
Speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside this morning the council’s leader Marion Atkinson took questions on the future of the aviary but said that the Council are now due to be legally challenged on their closure decision.
While not diving further into what the legal challenge states, Cllr Atkinson said she did not want to jeopardise the process and believed that speaking out on the matter now could have a future cost implication to taxpayers.
Cllr Atkinson said it was sensible not to pass comment so that she did not prejudice the process and allow it to play out fairly.
OTS News understands the challenge has been put to the council by hard working campaigners who want to keep the aviary open.
Further details about the challenge and what it may mean for the aviary are expected to be revealed in due course.
