Southport MP John Pugh MP is concerned about the need for the UK to make more progress against tax avoidance. Questioning the Prime Minister in the House of Commons yesterday on the G7 conference, Dr Pugh “warmly welcome the progress that is being made on tax avoidance and evasion and multinational transparency”. But he pressed David Cameron:

” are there any clear timelines, deadlines or penalties for non-compliance by individual countries?”

The Prime Minister replied:

The timeline that I have mentioned is the fact that 90 countries have promised automatic tax exchange by the end of 2018.2

” That is not as fast as I would like, or probably as the hon. Gentleman would like, but it is something that has not happened before and will now happen.”
