Pier road remains shut as repair works continue

15th September 2021

Marine Drive between Southport Pier and Pleasureland will be shut until further notice after surveys show more work is needed to fix the pier.

Police closed off part of Marine Drive by Southport Pier after a lorry reportedly crashed into the iron structure last week.

The road has remained blocked off to cars between the Guelder Rose and DW Fitness following the collision between a tall heavy goods vehicle and the cast iron pier.

A council spokesperson told OTS News:“Following an inspection on Monday, September 13, repair and restoration works will continue to take place on the underside of Southport Pier.

“This means Marine Drive will remain closed until works are completed. While we apologise for any delays these essential works may cause, the safety of our pedestrians and road users remains paramount.”
