In Pictures: Easter Sunday crowds at Southport

21st April 2019

Crowds of eager visitors invaded Southport seafront today to enjoy the Easter sunshine.

As temperatures rose, many over-heated folks and a few ‘hot dogs’ decided to take the plunge at high tide, which was flooding in just after 1.00 pm.

With it being Easter Sunday, any closed shops potentially missed out on a huge amount of passing trade.

Some folk even tried to escape to Ireland but appeared to change their minds once past the pier.

Others took a more leisurely mode of transport to reach the end of the pier.

No shortage of trade at Pleasureland though…

Raspberry syrup and a chocolate flake totally essential …

Meanwhile, on the Marine Lake, the Southport Jet was doing its stuff…

And more refined ways of getting around the lake.

End of the pier zoom shot – taken from the beach end…

All in all, it was a great day of sun and fun that will certainly stay as a good memory for many families that visited the resort today.

‘Come to Sunny Southport,’ as a time-worn marketing slogan, grew to be a local joke – yet not today!
