Parents warned about potentially lethal baby masks

    By Community Contributor24th July 2020

With the implementation of mandatory face coverings in UK shops on Friday, it has come to light that a number of dangerous products being aimed at babies and young children are currently on sale in the UK.

These products are not safe and pose a large suffocation risk for young children.

The Lullaby Trust advises that “We are not aware of any advice for babies to wear masks whether they are infected or not.  There is a potential risk of suffocation and other hazards with doing this.”

The government guidance on face coverings for children explains that if your child is under 2 years old, cannot put the mask on themselves or has a respiratory condition, they don’t need to wear a face-covering at all.

All other children can wear one but for those under the age of 11, it is not mandatory.
