Merseyrail set to return to 15-minute timetable

21st April 2022

Merseyrail will return to a 15-minute timetable in May for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began.

The operator resorted to reduced timetables through the pandemic due to staff shortages but is now set to return to its normal timetable across most of the network from Monday 2 May.

Services along the Southport to Hunts Cross line are currently operating at 20-minute intervals.

Trains between Southport and Hunts Cross will run every 15 minutes during non-Sunday opening hours. All other lines will operate every fifteen minutes between the hours of 7am and 7pm with a thirty-minute interval service outside these times. All lines will operate a 30-minute interval service on Sundays.

Merseyrail Managing Director Andy Heath said: “I’m thrilled that we are able to announce a return to a 15-minute service across most of our network. We have worked hard throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to deliver the most reliable service possible to the people of the Liverpool City Region.

“Our customers have been incredibly patient during this time, and I thank them for that as we adapted to a very challenging set of circumstances because of the pandemic.”
