Locking Devices For Different Purposes

9th May 2024

Load fall arresters act as a safety device and work in conjunction with hoists. They function independently of the main lifting system, so if it fails, they will secure the load and help stop it from falling.

Why You Need Load Fall Insurance

When a site needs to lift and move loads at height, there is a risk of them falling and being damaged. This can lead to unpleasant consequences for workers, equipment and the load itself. The result can be large financial losses and even accidents. To prevent this from happening, safety devices must be used.

The retractable inertia locking device has the following features:

  • strong and reliable housing made of materials that protect the mechanism from environmental influences and damage;
  • high load capacity, you can choose devices that can withstand 3000 kg;
  • steel rope, resistant to damage.

Such a device is suitable for use outdoors, in enclosed spaces, when performing welding work. Thanks to the reliable design, the device quickly responds to sudden changes in speed and activates the brake.

Operating principle

The retracting type locking device is installed next to the hoist or crane and then locked at the attachment point. A retractable steel cable is attached to the load via an internal spring drum, ensuring constant tension. If the hoist fails and this causes the load to fall, an inertial mechanical brake is automatically activated. This helps to reduce speed and stop the load from falling.

You can buy a locking device with steel cable to create a safe environment at the site. This will help prevent accidents and protect not only your load, but also the equipment that is nearby.

Security Kits

Many companies choose lockdown kits as their primary means of protecting assets and ensuring a secure work environment. Access control and the prevention of the unlawful use of resources and equipment are addressed comprehensively by these integrated kits.

Lockout Kits offer a comprehensive solution by including all the necessary locks, keys, tags, and accessories to completely secure the workplace. Lock off kits from RS can also be designed to meet the unique requirements of each company whether it’s for a particular industry or a particular type of equipment. This way, you can be sure that your protective measures are as effective as possible.

What Is Retractable Protective Equipment

Retractable protective equipment is personal protective equipment for working at height. The product is part of the safety harness, connecting the worker’s harness to the anchoring device. It belongs to the connecting subsystem.

The locking device lacks the disadvantage of a sling – too large a height margin. This includes the height of the person, the length of the sling, the opening of the shock absorber and the height reserve under the person’s feet, which in total amounts to at least six meters. The retractable protective equipment works on the principle of a car seat belt: it shortens the length of the shock absorber opening. It can therefore be used for work at heights of between two and six meters.

How The Retractable Protective Equipment Works

The locking device ensures a constant tension of the subsystem. Due to this, the cable is instantly blocked in the event of a jerk and does not sag, which reduces the load on the human body to values that are not capable of causing harm to health.

Where To Use It

Locking inertia devices work when there is a small height margin and a low actuation value is required. They are therefore ideal for applications such as tank cars, railroad cars or loading stations, climbing and lowering from ladders and working in a cradle.
