Kew Tesco closed after ‘generator fire’

23rd July 2023

Tesco Extra in Kew is closed this morning due to a fire in one of the generators, according to staff posted outside the building.

OTS News understands that there were no injuries, but further details as to the nature of the fire were not immediately available.

No damage was visible from outside the building when visited by OTS News reporters this morning.

No other businesses in the immediate area have been affected, and McDonald’s nearby is open and accepting customers.

The outage also affects the adjoining petrol station, which is currently closed until further notice.

Staff were unable to confirm when the business will reopen, stopping only to say that Tesco will be closed for at least the entirety of Sunday.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Our Southport Extra store and petrol station are currently closed following a fire which has left the site without power. Our team are working to get them open as soon as possible, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure.”
