Iconic theatre will be demolished within five months

By On The Spot News10th October 2022

The once grand Southport Theatre will be no more by March of next year.

The date has been set for diggers and bulldozers to move into the site, which will make way for the Marine Lake Events Centre.

A report from the Liverpool City Region combined authority published this week says that the current venue, which was shut in 2020, will be bulldozed by March 2023.

The theatre was liquidised by then owners Bliss, who said they could no longer make the business viable in the face of the Covid pandemic.

OTS understands from speaking to past employees that considerable work to make the building safe would have been needed, had Sefton Council not chose to demolish the theatre.
