Households urged to stop giving away old toys and furniture

Germ conscious residents are asking others to stop putting out their old and unwanted items for other people to take. A heap of toys including board games, dolls, nerf gun for 2 years old and more is getting accumulated to be taken by the needy.

The long standing tradition of leaving toys, white goods, old furniture and more outside on the pavement to be taken away by a stranger and given a second lease of life is now causing problems in Southport.

One resident, Pete Reynolds, says the practice should stop during the current pandemic after spotting a household leaving out a children’s tricycle to be taken away.

He said “people shouldn’t be leaving their unwanted items out on the street for others to take.

Coronavirus can live on many surfaces and this is a way of spreading it.”
