Celebration at Yaffé Photography!

Southport photography company has a great reason to celebrate during 2020. As a third generation of Yaffé photographer, a great milestone has been achieved.

This year, Adam Yaffé celebrates 30 years behind the lens! It was back in 1990 when Adam was 17 years old, that he decided to join his father and the family company which was at that time called Paul Yaffé Portraits.

Adam knew from the beginning he wasn’t in for an easy ride. “I remember right at the beginning, my Dad telling me that I would have to work my way up from the bottom. Indeed, I was sweeping the floor and making cups of tea! I needed to get an overall understanding of the whole business and the industry. It was a lot to learn.

I was actually very lucky as I was sent across the world to visit and learn from some of the greatest photographers. I spent time with the late Al Gilbert in Toronto, Canada and a number of photographers across Australia. I also spent some time with a group of photographers from the Fame Photography Studio in Norway and a week with Francis Dumbleton Studios in Cambridge.”

Adam goes on to say, “Of course my greatest tuition came from my dad, Paul Yaffé. His dad, my late grandfather David Yaffe, was also a photographer in Manchester. However, it was Southport that my dad chose to open his studio back in 1967. He grew from strength to strength winning a multitude of awards and qualifications.”

In 2012, Adam’s dad decided to take retirement and move to the sunny shores of Spain. Following this, Adam took the reigns of the company with his long-time friend and colleague Sandra and they moved premises to a new and fabulous studio in Southport town centre.

Over the 30 years, Adam has photographed thousands of families and children, not to mention countless dogs, a few cats and even a duck! More lately, he has created a growing number of images of newborn babies, whose parents he photographed as babies as well!

“This certainly makes me feel very old, so I’m going to stop counting the years now! However, it’s a honour and a real privilege that families come back to us over the generations. That kind of commitment is a real testament to the trust people have in my work, in the Yaffé name. I am forever grateful every time someone decides to make the decision to choose me to take their photos, to create a meaningful and lasting memory of a special time in their lives.”

To commemorate Adam’s 30th year behind the lens, he is going to be adorning every image created during 2020 with a special edition anniversary logo.
