    Eurovision Rankings | Which Country Has The Most Wins?

    By Hayley Mann1st June 2022

    We all have our opinions about the Eurovision song contest, but one thing stands out no matter what; it still remains as Europe’s number one song contest. Numerous singers from different countries have found their way into this competition, with many unlikely candidates stealing our hearts. Since its inception, the Eurovision has seen seven wins from a single country, the highest number of wins to date. Continue reading to find out which country has the most wins in the Eurovision contest.

    Ireland Tops The List

    Ireland is known to have won the contest an impressive seven times since its debut in 1965.

    These wins are confirmed in the recent research conducted by Betway Online Casino;

    The first Irish win was in 1970 when the Eurovision contest was held in Amsterdam. The winning song which was called “All Kinds of Everything’ by Dana” beat the United Kingdom to come in first place.

    It took ten years for Ireland to secure another win in the Hague. This win was thanks to Johnny Logan and his song “Whats Another Year.” Johnny Logan came back to the contest in 1987 to secure another win for Ireland with “Hold me Now.” Till date, he’s the only person to win the Eurovision contest twice.

    From 1992 to 1994, Ireland recorded a record-breaking consecutive win, starting with Linda Martin and her ballad “Why Me.” Niamh Kavanagh represented Ireland in 1993 and won the contest with ‘In your eyes. In 1994, Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrringtonave Ireland their sixth win with their song ‘Rock n Roll Kids. Their seventh win was in 1996, thanks to Eimear Quinn’s song “The Voice.”

    Despite winning the contest seven times, Ireland is most popular for their four wins in five consecutive years. They’re considered the most successful winning country ever recorded in Eurovision history. In addition to taking the first place seven times, Ireland has also finished in second place four times; in 1967, 1984, 1990, and 1997.

    Second Place Goes To Sweden

    No country has beaten Ireland’s seven-time win, but Sweden has come close. This country has the second-highest number of wins in the Eurovision contest, scoring six different wins since its debut in 1959. Sweden’s first win happened in 1974 when Abba sang their song “Waterloo.” It took them another ten years to win another Eurovision contest, this time with help from the Herreys and their hit “Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley.”

    Two of Sweden’s victories happened in the ’90s, with their last win being recorded in 2015. Their 2012 win was recorded as the second-highest score ever recorded at the Eurovision song contest since its inception. The winning song was titled “Euphoria’ by Loreen.”

    Sweden has an impressive record at the Eurovision song contest. They’ve always made it to the final since 2010 and have always placed within the top 10 since 2013. With such statistics, it’s no wonder they are considered the most successful Eurovision country of the past decade.

    Sadly, the Eurovision song contest being held this year doesn’t have Ireland as a contestant. Sweden, however, is in contention with other countries such as the UK, Italy, and Russia. Will Sweden add to its history of success, or will another nation create a newer record?
