Dog days for Sefton wardens as owner successfully challenges fine

25th September 2019

Sefton dog wardens have been left red faced after a Southport man challenged a ticket in a notorious fine hotspot.

The unnamed Male said he was with his three year old daughter and cocker spaniel as He entered the Kings Garden Community Garden from the ‘Esplanade’.

He said “As I went down the steps, I walked around the bowling club before entering the park with the fountain area. As I entered the fountain park, I walked a short distance across the park before feeding the ducks by the lake with my daughter.

As I was feeding the ducks, I was approached by a Civil Enforcement Officer and told that he had seen me with my dog off his lead that I had committed an offence as the park as it was a designated public open space.

There is no signage which I can see in the park area outlining that if a dog isn’t on a lead then you commit an offence under this order.

The signage is at best misleading?” Sefton have officially rescinded the man’s fine following appeal.
