Congratulations to Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs who defeated FC Milton (Rochdale), from the Lancashire and Cheshire League , 2-0 in the Lancashire Amateur Cup Final. The final ,which was delayed from last year by the Covid Pandemic , was played in front of a good crowd at the Lancashire Football Association County Ground in Leyland.
Two goals from Tom Taylor Hampson , one in each half gave S & A a comfortable victory. The first was a close-range effort and the second a free kick from 20 yards. A strong defensive display was the foundation for this victory with Milton having very few clear-cut chances. S & A also had a few other chances to increase their lead but couldn’t add to their tally.
Well done to Chairman David Stroud and Club Secretary Tony Alty who only created S & A in 2012, to the manager Kevin Mawdsley and his assistant Neil Alty and the captain Darren Brookfield and the team. This was S & A’s fourth appearance in the final and their first success which was thoroughly deserved.
