Councillor Continues Carriageway Conservation Crusade

6th February 2018

Councillor David Barton, a leading campaigner for the restoration and regeneration of Lord Street and Southport Town centre who previously campaigned for the resurfacing and retention of Lord Street’s signature red tarmac said:

“Having continued to liaise with the Sefton highways Department regarding the long- term structural integrity of the Lord Street carriageway, I am requesting that urgent action is taken as soon as possible to rectify the various defects now materialising along the high street, on behalf of all the vast many stakeholders that have also contacted me for assistance.

Having also been previously informed that a “snagging” programme was in place to monitor and resolve any such defects I am hopeful that these shall be acted upon as soon as the weather is clement by the Local Authority and would recommend the loose chippings that have clustered en masse already to be removed as a matter of pertinence.

At this time I should also like to extend my appreciations to both the Public and Private Sectors for their own ongoing concerted approach to improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone and for appreciating the need to adopt a professional approach towards supporting the local community for the long- term future.”
