Constant fly-tipping causing a stink for Hillside residents

    By Community Contributor28th April 2021

OTS has been contacted by frustrated residents following regular fly tipping on the same Hillside corner.

According to one disgruntled local, every day for the past week, shopping bags, boxes and bin bags of rubbish have been abandoned at the junction of Sandon Road and Waterloo Road.

Sandon Road is host to a number of local businesses as well as many residents and the reoccurring dumping of waste is having an impact on the aesthetics of the area as well as potentially attracting rats and other pests.

    Fly-tipping is a criminal offence.

The current fixed penalty for fly-tipping is £400, to be paid within 14 days. Failure to pay will result in formal action being taken.

The maximum fine for fly-tipping is £50,000 or twelve months imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates Court.

The offence can attract an unlimited fine and up to five years imprisonment if convicted in a Crown Court.
