Casino News and Trends for 2021

    By Allen Brown3rd November 2020

Even though it’s just a few months away, 2021 feels incredibly far off, as though it could be in another space continuum altogether. That is possibly because 2020 feels like the longest year on record for everyone, regardless of where they live. While New Zealand has done an exceptional job of keeping the coronavirus at bay (for the most part), it might take some time for your favorite casinos to open to the public. That, however, does not mean that casinos are a foregone conclusion – not by a long shot. If anything, the physical structures will come back with a vengeance, but till COVID-19 disappears entirely, casinos and gambling will look a bit different.

The following are some of the anticipated big trends for casinos in the coming year.

    Virtual Reality

Until fairly recently, most people made fun of virtual reality games or dismissed them as too science-fiction-y to appeal to a broad swath of the public, let alone people who love casinos. That tide of opinion has slowly changed. VR technology is far more affordable these days, making it easier for passionate gamers to join in on the fun from pretty much anywhere. The games are incredibly immersive, and there is a wide array of titles to choose from. Most of these games are also multiple players, so you still have the high-risk vibe of an in-person game, allowing you to enjoy a social atmosphere that also represents the best of innovative gaming and gambling. Skeptics should definitely give this a try.

    More Online Gaming, Less In-Person

Because we are not out of the woods yet when it comes to the pandemic, expect that the biggest trend of 2021 will remain online gambling. The good thing is, thanks to the technology and the incredible rate of innovation, an online casino presents excellent options that do their best to make even the most technologically inept feel right at home. The games are also incredibly creative and present a hybrid of role-playing options as well as innovative animation to keep things interesting. And, given that things are online, the scenarios presented in the games can be much more “out there” than your traditional adventures in casinos. So, players no longer have to feel that they are missing out on anything, rather, they are finding an entirely new and exciting hobby to explore.

    Smartphones As New Portals

Given that, again, most casino activity will occur online for the foreseeable future, the next trend that will be big in 2021 is that your smart devices – phones, Apple watch, tablets – will all be prime gateways to the casino world. Playing via your smartwatch is going to be especially big, given that the technology has become simultaneously cheaper and more sophisticated, making it far easier to access all kinds of interesting casino games right there on your watch or phone. Developers are targeting users of these devices in particular since they know that the average consumer will want a fun and easy way to pass the time, especially those that are on the go.

So far, these are anticipated to be some of the biggest trends in 2021. Hopefully, people can congregate in a physical casino once again, and enjoy the ostentatious structures in person. But, for the foreseeable future, we have the technology to carry us through, and thankfully, that’s no small potatoes these days.
