Car hit by a train at Birkdale crossing

Train services between Southport and Liverpool were cancelled this evening after a train collided with a car at Crescent Road the level crossing, Thursday 26 August.

The car was on the tracks at Crescent Road when it was hit by a Merseyrail train travelling from Liverpool to Southport at around 9.30pm this evening.

A local resident told our reporter “The collision happened after the motorist turned onto the railway track instead of the road, the driver escaped without injury.”

Rail replacement buses are now in operation for affected passengers after a number of services between Southport and Liverpool were cancelled.
