The Big Southport Christmas Switch On

It is that time of year again, Christmas is around the corner! The Southport BID are excited to be bringing back the big lights switch on event again for the fourth year running!  Once again they will be delivering a huge event, with a full afternoon of entertainment family entertainment.

The big concert will begin after 1pm with a great children’s act and provide back to back entertainment from local groups and dance schools and with sets from our two Southport Pantos!  There will be fairground rides along Lord Street, courtesy of Southport Pleasureland and Santa and his reindeer will be back paying us a visit.  Last year’s event was a huge success, attracting over forty five thousand into the town centre over the afternoon.  The peak crowd at the switch on moment was up to four thousand.  The decision to move the event to a Sunday was taken following consultation with businesses in 2017 and it proved to be the right one.  Last year’s event had a superb family feel, with people making a full day of it – enjoying entertainment, rides and street performances then going to enjoy dinner before the main event.

2017’s lights were switched on by 90’s band East 17 who put on a great show.  We will be making announcements on who is lined up for this year’s event very soon!

Hugh Evans says “We really want to build on the success of last year’s event and make this year Southport’s most spectacular switch on yet.  It is the single biggest event within the town centre itself and it keeps growing.  We have some really big surprises to announce that will make this an event not to be missed!”

Please keep a look out for more information and announcements on what to expect by following us on Facebook.

The lights will be switched on at 5.30pm on Sunday November 18th.
