The latest crime thriller by popular Liverpool author Sean Watkin will hit home for many avid book lovers in Southport.
No Place Left is the latest in his DCI De Silva crime fiction series, with the book seeing the Liverpool detective tackle a case where the body of a new-born baby is found on the dilapidated pier.
Meanwhile, the child’s mother is nowhere to be found.
Described as “not for the faint hearted” by crime fiction reviewers, the tale plays out across the town centre and nearby dunes.

“This is an unsettling and disturbing read and definitely the most thought-provoking in the series so far.
“Although a lot of the action takes place in Southport and even, gasp, Manchester, thankfully Liverpool still runs through the narrative like the lettering in a stick of seaside rock.”
The story may remind residents of a true story from 2015 when a newborn baby, thankfully alive, was discovered in the toilets of an amusement arcade near to Southport Pier.
Thankfully the quick thinking of members of the public ensured the baby, later named April, survived.
The police at the time launched an urgent appeal to find the baby’s mothers. She was later found and initially charged with attempted murder but this was later dropped by the CPS and she avoided jail.
