Campaigners desperate to overturn a shock decision to close the Botanic Gardens Aviary are tonight travelling 20 miles South to continue their fight.

The Save Botanic Gardens Aviary group will challenge Sefton Council Labour politicians at an overview and scrutiny meeting to be held at Bootle Town Hall from 6.30pm.

Supported by opposition councillors the campaigners aim to get to the bottom of the decision, which has seen more than 16,000 people speak out against it via petition. Animal rights groups such as PETA have lent their support to the Council however.

That petition will be discussed on Thursday night, also at Bootle Town Hall.

Sefton Council chiefs are understood to be attending the meeting and will be on hand to answer questions.
