4 things to look for when hunting for the perfect house

    By Community Contributor23rd October 2020

House hunting can be an exciting yet stressful time in one’s life. On the one hand, you are searching for the place you will call home for the foreseeable future. However, on the other hand, you are also preparing to make one of the most significant investments that you will possibly ever make. Moreover, you might be on the clock a bit as you search for a home to move into.

All that aside, hunting for the perfect house doesn’t have to be too complicated. It very well might take more time than you had hoped, but it is far better to be patient and find the right house than to rush into the wrong one.

To help you search for the perfect house, here are four things that you should keep an eye out for.

    1. A Good Neighbourhood

First and foremost, you want to make sure that you live in an area that fits your preferences. You will more than likely want a home that isn’t too far a drive from your job, but you also want to live in an estate that you are comfortable in. Take the time to tour the local area to ensure that you like the neighbourhood you are considering moving to. If you are looking into new build homes, inquire with the sales team about what amenities and shops are in the local area.

    2. Curb Appeal

When you first drive up to a house that you are considering, you want to get the impression right away that the home is one that has been looked after and well maintained. If a house is drastically lacking in curb appeal, it isn’t a positive indicator of what lies within. There is no need to get caught up on smaller things like the grass being a bit overgrown. However, if there is a great deal of debris about and if the home exterior isn’t in good condition, it will probably not be an excellent investment on your part.

    3. Storage

One thing that most homeowners wish they had more of is storage. When you are searching for your ideal home, it is essential to pay attention to the storage capabilities that a house has. Older homes lack in closets and cupboards, but there is no guarantee that a new build will have all of the storage that you need. If the home you are looking at doesn’t have built-in storage at the ready, are the rooms big enough to accommodate any wardrobes and dressers that you will need?

    4. Lighting

Have you ever gone to tour a home that is meant to be of adequate square footage only to feel that the rooms are closed off and cramped? If so, the culprit might be a lack of adequate lighting. Natural light instantly brightens and opens up a space. Make sure that the home you go for has plenty of natural light to enjoy.
