Southport driver films moment he confronts speed camera operator on New Cut Lane

‘If you are not a police officer, then you should not be impersonating a police officer in a police vehicle’

• Southport businessman confronted speed camera operator on New Cut Lane, Birkdale, Southport.

• He claimed the civilian worker was ‘impersonating a police officer’

• The man tries to shield his face, before calling police colleagues for back up

• Police said there is no requirement for camera operators to be police officers

This footage shows the moment an angry driver confronted a speed camera operator and accused him of impersonating a police officer.

Jeff Hughes, approached the civilian worker as he sat in a marked police van that was parked on New Cut Lane Southport The 1 minute video, which Mr Hughes later posted on Facebook, shows him challenging the camera operator as he tries to hide his face from the camera. 

The operator repeatedly asks Mr Hughes to stop filming, before finally phoning police colleagues for back up.
