Councillor David Barton last night spoke of his delight at the news the government’s coastal revival fund has pledged £45,000 to the town’s Lord Street.

Councillor Barton has made the restoration of Southport’s focal point one of his priorities since being elected.

Last week he spoke of it becoming known as ‘Laudable Street’ in the future if all the work he wants done is carried out.

Yesterday Councillor Barton said: “I spoke to the Coastal Communities Minister Brandon Lewis MP about this on several occasions including during the General Election earlier this year and a recent Conservative Councillors’ Association (CCA) training development course where I raised the issue of increased support from Central Government for our Coastal resort town and I could not be happier that he has come through with this funding for Southport.

“The history of Lord Street makes it vital that we ensure it is a thriving area and welcoming and attractive for both locals and visitors to out town.

“Hopefully this money will act as a catalyst to achieve something we can all be proud of.”
