MORE than 60 per cent of the places have already been snapped up for the Southport Coast Links Championship. And entries have been bolstered by players from Spain and the United Arab Emirates.
The 72-hole single stableford is on August 8–12 at Formby Ladies, Southport & Ainsdale, West Lancs and Hillside with the top 24 players qualifying to play at Royal Birkdale on the final day of the five day event.
Non-qualifiers will enjoy a second round at S&A on the Friday.
S&A has hosted two Ryder Cup matches, in 1933 and 1937, and a number of other prestigious championships including the British Ladies’ Open and the British Amateur. It remains a final qualifying course for the Open Championship and it has been voted by one golf magazine as among the top 50 courses in Great Britain.

Hillside is a true championship links, and is proud to have been chosen to stage Open Championship Final Qualifying each year from 2014, together with a superb track record in featuring the world’s major amateur events.
Royal Birkdale, one of Britain’s finest golf clubs, has been voted the No 1 course in Britain and is among the best in the world.
Meanwhile, former Open champion Greg Norman said of Formby Ladies: “Over 100 years old and still your course can stand the test of time. What a beautiful course. It clearly shows that courses do not have to be 7,000 yards plus to be formidable.”
There will be daily prizes, a two’s competition each day as well as the opportunity to win through to Royal Birkdale. Each round is qualifying for handicap purposes approved by England Golf.
The presentation will be at S&A on the Friday evening.
