Southport man David Jones has been given an MBE in the new year honours list

Both the Chairs of Governors of the two Southport Schools which have been labeled as ‘failing’ by OFSTED have now been awarded MBEs.

John Rostron, Chair of Governors of KGV Sixth Form College, received his MBE in 2006 for “services to education.” Under Mr Rostron’s leadership, the College received the lowest possible OFSTED result in September of 2014 and has recently received a further critical report after a follow-up visit. OFSTED said that ” performance management at all levels across the college is not effective” and  ” the governing body does not hold senior post holders to account with sufficient rigour”.
Birkdale High School governing body was chaired by former Birkdale Ward Conservative Councillor David Jones in 2011 when the school was placed into ‘special measures’ following a scathing OFSTED report. OFSTED said, when branding Birkdale High School as ‘inadequate’ that  “governors are not involved sufficiently in self-evaluation and the monitoring of progress against the development plan; they do not effectively hold leaders and managers to account.”
Mr Jones, who lost his Birkdale council seat in 1984 has just been awarded an MBE for “services to politics”.
