Work well underway repairing railings at King’s Gardens, Southport

Watched on by eagle eyed Sefton council security guards, contractors are busy trying to repair damaged Kings Gardens masonry – over a year after it was nearly destroyed by vandals.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was done to the historic masonry work around the children’s play area and mini golf attraction at the Kings Gardens in November when it was kicked down by vandals.

It’s expected to cost the council thousands to repair – helped in part by the Friends of Kings Gardens group. More repair work is needed to fix part of the Marine Lake wall which was also badly damaged in 2016.

It remains cordoned off. Despite millions of pounds being spent on a major regeneration scheme at the promenade-based park, there are concerns that little has been done to stop the continued vandalism and frequent drugs use which is blighting the area.

Cllr David Barton told OTSNews.co.uk “I am delighted to see this prized community landmark being brought back to its former splendour. At this time I  should also like to request more appreciation for our proud civic heritage and respect for those people- be they young families or discerned senior citizens wishing to enjoy our Classic Resort town. Once again I should like to extend my gratitude to the various Authorities that are working together to safeguard Kings Gardens including the Friends of Kings Gardens, Sefton Arc, Merseyside Police and the Security Provider.”
