Work has allegedly stopped and contractors have been turned away from a multi million pound housing development in Southport.

Workers turned up for their Monday morning shift at the Belong Birkdale development on the corner of Oxford Road and Palace Road this morning to find gates padlocked shut and a notice telling them to go home.

A security firm had been called to guard the site to reportedly stop workers from entering and taking equipment belonging to them.

Police have also been called as tensions rose due to workers being told they have been left without jobs and are at risk of not being paid.

OTS News understands the main site contractor Pochin went bust with immediate effect in the early hours of this morning.
