Merseyside Police say that a body has been found in the search for missing Southport man Stephen Molloy.

Stephen Molloy, 60, from Southport has been missing since 4 June.

Police say that while the body has not yet been formally identified, they do believe the body to be that of Mr Molloy.

Mr Molloy’s family have been informed of the discovery.

Merseyside Police have made extensive enquiries into the search for Mr Molloy, who had been described as a vulnerable adult with communication difficulties.

Merseyside Police said in a statement: “We can sadly confirm that a body has been found which we believe to be Stephen Molloy.

“The 60-year-old, from Southport, was first reported missing on Thursday 4 June and extensive enquiries have been ongoing to locate him.

“Sadly, a body was found in Halsall, in Lancashire, last night (Wednesday 17 June) and although he is yet to be formally identified, it’s believed to be Stephen. His family have been informed.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
