Sefton Council is running a 6-week consultation to gauge views on a revised Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme for 2018/19.
Currently around 27,000 households in Sefton receive Council Tax Reduction.
Sefton Council proposes to continue with the 2017/18 Council Tax Reduction Scheme for working age customers (subject to some minor technical changes to align it more with Housing Benefit and Universal Credit rules) and to make the scheme easier for people to understand.
There is no change to the national Council Tax Reduction Scheme for people of pension age unless the Government does so.
As part of the consultation, the Council welcomes comments from all Sefton residents whether they claim benefits or not.
The closing date for comments is Friday, November 10, 2017.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services, said:
“We want to ensure that anyone who has an interest in this proposed revision of the scheme has an opportunity to have their say.
“Your views and the information provided will be analysed and will then form part of a report to Council in January 2018 when we have to make a decision on the Council Tax Reduction Scheme for 2018/19.
“This affects thousands of people in the borough so please take the time to have your say.”
