UPDATE: Southport V Gateshead CANCELLED after players self-isolate

13th March 2020

Southport’s Vanarama National League North match against Gateshead has been cancelled due to players self-isolating for coronavirus.

The club initially announced the match would take place, only to backtrack hours later.

Members of Gateshead’s first team have begun self-isolation for coronavirus. OTS believe that no members of the Southport squad are affected.

A club statement said: “Our home fixture against Gateshead which was scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.

The game has been called off due to the visitors having members of first-team staff who are self-isolating in line with Government advice following the Cvoid-19 [sic] outbreak.

The National League have agreed to the postponement.

The club would like to apologise to supporters for the uncertainty surrounding this fixture. The National League confirmed at 3.15pm on Friday that fixtures in its three divisions would be allowed to proceed, only for the club to subsequently learn of the situation at Gateshead.”
