Town Crier apologises after busker is assaulted during St Georges Day proclamation

A Southport busker has been assaulted – all because he accidentally walked in front of a woman filming.

Jason Allan, who is well liked throughout the town after he busked for an entire day to help fund a homeless man’s accommodation at Christmas, was walking down Chapel Street last week when he accidentally walked across the filming of the St Georges Day Proclamation by the Southport Town Crier.

The proclamation on Saturday April 22 was being filmed by a friend of the town crier in order to later be uploaded to social media.

However as the filming began, an unsuspecting Jason accidentally wandered briefly into shot and quickly corrected the error before apologising to the camerawoman.

Yet despite his profuse apology, as Jason walked away the woman viciously kicked out at the young singer.

When Jason confronted his attacker, Town Crier Darryl Counsell, who says he did not witness the original incident, forcefully told Jason to ‘go away’ but later denied all knowledge of the situation.

That was until footage of the incident emerged on social media and the cirer was forced to issue a profuse apology.

At the end of the footage the woman is clearly seen walking up to the Town Crier and ‘bragging’ about the kick.

Mr Counsell said: “I make no excuse or defence, the kick was unacceptable.

“I would like to make a public apology for the incident.

“I hadn’t seen clearly from my angle, as I read the proclamation, quite what had happened in the moment.

“Having seen the video, I am as upset as everyone else about the incident and apologise unreservedly for my reaction.

“I hope to continue in this post as I am passionate about the role and Southport. Kind Regards, Darryl, Southport Town Crier.”

Jason said: “I had just finished busking in Southport on Saturday and as I was walking, a woman went to shove me out the because I nearly walked infront of her video of the town crier.

“As I went to walk around her, she kicked me for no reason!

“Even more so she brags to the guy about kicking me after it – what an absolute child.

“I really hope the woman sees this and feels stupid, because she certainly looks it.
