Town centre covered in litter after busy weekend

5th July 2020

Dirty day-trippers have left Southport promenade in a filthy state this weekend with piles of chip wrappers, empty drink cartons and litter thrown on the floor.

With more fast food outlets open and chip shops along Nevill Street doing a roaring trade, there has been a drastic increase in the amount of rubbish to clear away.

Whilst there are bins around the promenade, some people are still choosing to throw their litter away.

Susan Ainsworth, who sent in this picture to OTS News, said: “I was absolutely disgusted at the state of the promenade today.

“It was absolutely filthy and nobody cared. If they couldn’t find a bin then just chucked their rubbish away for the wind to take. It’s disgusting.”

The Council’s tourism team have been asking visitors to take their rubbish home with them after visiting the town.
